Over the semester we wrote three essays and did one podcast. The work that I am most proud of and my favorite essay of the semester was definitely the personal narrative essay. I liked it because we go to use imagery and creative writing. We also got to pick what we wanted to write about. This made it a lot easier and more fun because it was a topic of my choice. I did my essay on my trip to Mexico and the things I saw while I was there that was much different than America. I also liked this essay because I got to write about one of the best life experiences I've had. It brought back great memories and I actually had fun writing it even though I normally hate writing. On the other hand, something I would change is probably the intro letter because that was the worst essay I've ever written in my life lol. I only had 30 minutes until it was due to write it so it didn't turn out too well. And no, it wasn't because I was procrastinating. I didn't check my email that class was cancelled and showed up there. Then, I lost my keys somehow and was locked out of my room so I had to go look for them. By the time I found them and got back to my room, the essay was already due in 30 minutes. I was so scared because this was also my first college essay and I didn't want it to be turned in late or turn out horrible. What I would do differently is check my email that morning because then none of this would have happened. Luckily the grade was just based on if you did the assignment or not. whewwww Something I learned this semester is the all of the different rhetorical devices and how they come into play with everything we say, write, watch, and hear. I never learned about the rhetorical devices in high school. Using ethos, pathos, logos, and Kairos are effective devices to use in a persuasive essay. Now that I know the devices I notice them in things I read and watch. I can now tell if a writers is credible and if I should believe what they are saying or not. Some things that influenced and helped my writing process is the conferences we did and switching papers with my peers. This feed back helped me because hearing someone else's point of view and opinion on my essay helped me realize what I need to fix to improve my essay. My writing has improved because now it is easy to make my paragraphs flow and I know how to use a hook to get the reader interested. Before, I didn't know how to effectively do these things. You can see my improvement from my intro letter to my personal narrative. Overall, everything I've learned in this class this semester has benefitted me and has prepared me for speaking and writing in the future.
