Essay: Kaylee Roche Lacee D Nisbett English 101-323 August 20, 2019
Intro Letter Coming from a far place to a place where you don’t know anyone is scary and takes a strong, independent mind. My name is Kaylee Roche. I am 18 years old and I am from San Diego, California. Going across the country with no friends or family with you is very difficult, but with the right mindset anyone can do it. In order to reach your goals there may be some risks you have to take. Furthermore, three words that describe me are resilient, hard-working, and outgoing. These are three very important aspects of my myself which have helped me get through many tough situations. Resilience is the most important to me. My dad is who taught me how to be resilient. He taught me that when life gets hard you must get up in order to keep moving forward. You will never reach your goals by giving up. My dad has a famous saying in our family. “Your boat will always float.” By this he means that no matter what happens in life, you have the power to keep moving forward. No matter who comes in your life or leaves your life, your life will always go on. Your boat will float. He told me that you can’t be scared of failure. Everyone great fails and learns from their mistakes. Being resilient is a great trait and mindset to have in any situation. Being resilient means that no matter how hard you get knocked down or how low you feel, you always have the power to get back up and overcome any obstacle thrown your way. Not everything will always go how you want it to, but how you overcome that is what really matters. You can never reach your goals if you don’t keep trying after failing. Some goals I have set for myself this school year are making new friends, keeping straight A’s, and having fun. College is a fun and valuable experience to have that not everyone gets. My goal is to make the most out of college academically and socially. I hope to make lifelong friends at UA and get a degree for myself and my future family. I am a chemical engineer major. In the future, I hope to be able to create new cures for diseases and medical technology for hospitals. I want to be able to take care of my family without having to worry about money. I want to make my own money and not have to rely on anyone else. My goal is to be able to be independent. My mom and my grandma are prime examples of independent women. They made me who I am today and who I want to become in the future. They told me that you will always have yourself. you cannot rely on anyone else to make you happy or to provide for you. So, that is why I want to work hard and so I can make a good living for my family. I want to be happy and stable ultimately. I will do whatever it takes to get there.
Reflection: For this assignment we had to write a 500 word essay about our selves and who we are as a writer. This essay was difficult for me because I only had 30 minutes until it was due to write it. It started out not formatted correctly because I had to speak it into my phone lol. I didn't have the correct font, heading, or spacing. I have come very far through this semester with writing. In the beginning I struggled with writing formal essays because it was hard for me to think of vocabulary words to use and how to make my paragraphs flow together. This semester we learned more about transitions which really helped me make my essays come together nicely. I feel like I definitely made progress as a writer. I've actual met all my goals that I set for myself in my essay. I made so many new friends and created priceless memories. This semester was really one for the books. I also maintained straight A's all semester which was another one of my goals. I had to manage my time and work well with my social life. It was difficult in the beginning because I wasn't used to college yet and how to do things. It is very different from high school. I had to find new ways to study and learn to be independent. We no longer have our parents telling us what we need to do. I learned a lot more responsibility this semester which is a trait that I need to have throughout my life. I will only get more independent from here on. My other goals are in the process of becoming reality right now. I just have to stay focused and work hard. Degree loading...
